Don’t Give In to the Left’s Moral Blackmail

A statement posted on social media by Pittsburgh Tree of Life synagogue shooter shows what he shares in common with 99 percent of the members of the “mainstream” media: “For the record I did not vote for him [Trump] nor have I owned, worn or even touched a MAGA hat.” Yet while the president, like most Republicans, specifically indicated he would be happy to see the shooter get the death penalty for his crimes, few Democrats would agree. Current support for the death penalty is 77 percent among the GOP and just 35 percent among Democrats.

Nor can Trump be blamed for the Florida “bomber,” a man with a lengthy criminal record, years of steroid use, and mental illness. If Trump had his way, people with records like his would have been in prison—not voting, attending rallies, and certainly not mailing “packages.” (The media delighted in informing us that the man was a Trump supporter and a registered Republican.)

We also know the wannabe bomber had been arrested nine times since 1991. He pled guilty to two separate felonies during that time, but because “adjudication was withheld” in each case, he maintained his voting rights, a policy brought to us by liberals who love nothing more than giving the franchise to criminals, who vote overwhelmingly for Democrats. We live in a society in which liberals enact insanely stupid policies and then blame Republicans for the outcome when things predictably go wrong.

Nonetheless, the media, whose excuse-making for left-wing violence has been a major factor in more than 630 incidents of recorded violence and harassment of Trump supporters by the Left in the last two years, was sure to blame Trump for fostering “a climate of hatred.”

The media wishes you’d forget the inconvenient truth that Trump’s daughter is a convert to Orthodox Judaism and three of his grandchildren are Orthodox Jews. Eight of his nine grandchildren have substantial Jewish ancestry. Never mind that Trump went out of his way, against the advice of other politicians, to personally pay his respects in Pittsburgh, where his warm personal condolences were praised by the synagogue’s rabbi.

A Method to Media Madness
Meanwhile, buried in the
New York Times story about the rise of anti-Semitic hate crimes in New York—a story occasioned by the Pittsburgh shooting—was the fact that not one of the 142 hate crimes registered against Jews in New York last year had a right-wing perpetrator. According to the Times, that means that the violence “refuses to conform to an easy narrative” but it does conform to an easy narrative—just not one the Times would like to push.

But there is a method in this media madness, and that is to protect their leftist allies from legitimate criticism. And speaking as a Jewish person, it saddens me that some of the worst offenders in this speech-squelching are Jewish leftists. We should not let the horrific tragedy in Pittsburgh prevent us from calling them out on their tactics, thus rewarding to their bad behavior.

Because a crazy felon sent a non-functioning package “bomb” to leftist billionaire megadonor George Soros, these leftists want to declare it anti-Semitic and off-limits to criticize Soros—a man whose pernicious and wide-ranging influence on politics both in the United States and abroad could scarcely be overstated and whose Open Society Foundations have spent billions of dollars funding liberal and left-wing causes and attempting to subvert national sovereignty. House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) stupidly gave into leftist McCarthyism and recently deleted an anti-Soros tweet showing Soros’ picture along with the text that “We cannot let Soros, [Tom] Steyer, and [Michael] Bloomberg BUY this election.”

Predictably, Jewish left-wing Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) blamed anti-Semitism for the Right’s and McCarthy’s focus on Soros.

“There are a lot of people (who) are generous to the Democratic Party,” Schiff said. The fact that he’s become a symbol is not an accident.” But the truth about Soros is horrible enough and his influence and financial support are likely the largest of any left-wing donor worldwide.

McCarthy’s tweet made zero reference to the Jewishness of Soros, Bloomberg, or Steyer—and in fact, Steyer is not Jewish (his father was Jewish, but Steyer, like his mother, is Episcopalian.)

Really, the only thing inaccurate about the tweet is that it didn’t say, “We cannot let Soros, Steyer, Sussman, Simons, and Bloomberg to buy this election” since both billionaire financiers Jim Simons and Donald Sussman joined the aforementioned three to be the largest donors to the Democrats during the 2018 election cycle, according to an accounting in the Washington Post. But since Simons and Sussman are both Jewish, I assume that throwing their names into the tweet in the name of accuracy wouldn’t have satisfied Schiff and the left-wing online mob either, since for them narratives must always trump facts.

‘This Is How Free Speech Dies’
Jewish conservatives though, are shown no such courtesy by Jewish leftists. When Bernie Sanders
accused Jewish Republican megadonor Sheldon Adelson of trying to buy our elections, the media yawned.

Meanwhile, the non-Jewish Koch brothers famously have been demonized by the Left for decades now and they were even the subject of a defamatory and much-debunked book that was a finalist for the National Book Award last year.

It is vital for Jewish conservatives to speak out about these abuses.

When people speaking on behalf of the Jewish community go to major outlets like the Daily Beast and accuse Trump of engaging in “stochastic terrorism,” in the wake of Pittsburgh, we should call them out on it. And when Franklin Foer turns to the pages of The Atlantic to write, “Any strategy for enhancing the security of American Jewry should involve shunning Trump’s Jewish enablers. Their money should be refused, their presence in synagogues not welcome,” we should call him out on it too.

Nor should we sit silently while Jewish leftists like the New York Times’ Michelle Goldberg attempt to exploit the atrocity in Pittsburgh by echoing the phrasing and vision of white supremacists by celebrating the demographic decline of white people in America like a cartoon Jewish villain from a Neo-Nazi propaganda piece.

Moving away from the strictly sectarian, Tucker Carlson has his finger on the pulse of the left-wing speech stiflers of every persuasion who use tragedy as a justification for shutting down right-leaning opinion.

Accusing them of committing “moral blackmail,” Carlson argued the other week, “They want to take charge of what you want to say and think . . . until the range of free speech narrows until it resembles a CNN script.”

“This is how free speech dies,” Carlson said. A little over a week later, an Antifa mob tried to break down Carlson’s door while his wife locked herself in the pantry and called the police.

So Carlson knows what he’s talking about. And he’s right—free speech is in peril and may very well die. But only if conservatives give in to the leftist bullies instead of fighting them.
