Independent Journalist Andy Ngo in Hospital with ‘Brain Bleed’ After Portland Antifa Mob Attacks

Independent journalist Andy Ngo was assaulted by a mob of masked protesters during a street rally in downtown Portland on Saturday while police officers apparently stood back and did nothing. He was initially treated at a hospital emergency room and later admitted into the hospital overnight to treat a serious head injury, his lawyer Harmeet Dhillon announced on Twitter late Saturday night.

Beginning at around noon, protesters from the left and right held separate demonstrations that eventually clashed, resulting in injuries and arrests.

Here is some of Ngo’s coverage of the left-wing march which he livestreamed on Periscope:

Video posted by Oregonian reporter Jim Ryan shows the antifa mob swarming Ngo, punching him, kicking him, spraying silly string and pepper-spray on him, and throwing milkshakes at him that may have been laced with cement.

“Owned bitch!” an agitator howled as Ngo staggered off.

Ngo, who writes for Quillette, tweeted about the attack while waiting for the ambulance.

“I just got beat up by the crowd–no police at all,” Ngo said on Periscope directly after the attack. “They stole my GoPro and they punched me several times in my face and head—I’m bleeding,” he added.

When police finally appeared, he asked them plaintively, “where the hell were all of you?”

He told a female officer that he had already been assaulted twice earlier in the day, and had reported the assaults, but nothing had been done. He also told police that someone stole his camera equipment with evidence of the attack.

A Portland Antifa group known as “(Pop)ular (Mob)ilization” gleefully posted photos of themselves passing out milkshakes to fellow travelers during the demonstration.

After police had eggs and milkshakes thrown at them, they declared a civil disturbance and unlawful assembly and crowds were forced to disperse.

Only three arrests were made: Gage Halupowski, 23; James K. Stocks, 21; and Maria C. Dehart, 23.

The Portland Police Bureau said there were reports that protesters were throwing “milkshakes” with “a substance mixed in that was similar to a quick drying cement.”

Police said one of the suspects was arrested for throwing the substance during the incident.

Said Quillette founding editor Claire Lehmann on Twitter: “Throwing liquid cement at a person causing caustic burning & traumatic brain injury is the type of assault that could land someone some serious jail time.”

A number of liberal journalists on Twitter minimized the attack by either making light of it or criticized Ngo for putting himself into harm’s way.

Of course, Ngo doesn’t “embed [with] hate groups.” He shows up at demonstrations and reports what he sees in an effort to shine a light on Antifa’s thuggery while the MSM either ignores it, attempts to excuse it, or even justify their violence.

It’s worth pointing out that the Proud Boys (incorrectly labeled a far-right “hate group” by the corporate leftist media) have been purged from social media, while Antifa accounts proliferate unimpeded on all platforms.

On Friday, Ngo posted on Twitter that he was nervous about covering the Antifa demonstration because he knew they were planning “physical confrontations” and he knew they had it out for him.

Early Sunday morning Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) called on law enforcement to prosecute the “violent felons” who assaulted Ngo and called for an investigation of Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler after he (once again) allowed the Antifa “domestic terrorists” to attack Portland residents.

Dhillon requested help from the U.S. Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division, “since Portland is incapable of preventing masked violence against people exercising their First Amendment rights.”

A GoFundMe was started for Ngo to help cover medical expenses and the loss of his equipment.
