The Border Patrol Union in El Paso, Texas, has reportedly lost $500,000 due to embezzlement, The Daily Caller reports.
The lost money was first mentioned by National Border Patrol Council President Brandon Judd in November 2019, with the audio of those comments only recently being leaked to the media. It was discovered that $352,389.31 was “misappropriated,” and another $150,035.65 was “not properly paid out to the IRS in tax money.”
The El Paso Border Patrol Union represents nearly 1,400 Border Patrol agents. The matter is being investigated by both the FBI and the Department of Labor, and currently the main suspects are the former leader of the El Paso BPU, Robert Russell, and his sister Dawn Munoz. Munoz served as the union’s accountant until she was fired shortly after her brother’s resignation in 2018.
